In 1963 was established the first Ministry of Economy in
Yemen Arab Republic
by presidential decree of law No.29/ 1963 on the formation of the Ministry of Economy
and defined its functions.
The presidential decision on the establishment of Supply Authority under supervision
of the Ministry of Local Administration, then issuing of presidential decision of
law No 13/1966 to separate Supply Authority from the Ministry of Local Administration
under supervision of the Ministry of Economy ,Trade and Supply.
The Supply sector remained under supervision of the Ministry of Economy until1974.
The issuance of republican decree No.17 /1974 to convert Supply Authority to what
named the Ministry of Supply.
In 1977 issued the Leadership Committee decision of law No.41/1977 to amend the
Ministry of Supply to be the Ministry of Supply and Trade.
Thus, both the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Supply and Trade implemented
the functions and tasks undertaken by laws until the second half of the 80s.
By the beginning of 1987 issued the republican decision of law No.5 /1987 to integrate
the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Supply and Trade in one Ministry named
the Ministry of Economy, Supply and Trade.
After the unification in 1990 the Ministry of Economy, Supply and Trade was separated
into two ministries.
In 2007 issued the republican decision of law No.46/2007 to integrate the Ministry
of Industry and the Ministry of Supply and Trade in one Ministry named the Ministry
of Industry and Trade.
This decision has its positive impact in eliminating the duplicity and overlapping
of specialties between the two former Ministries and gathering tasks and efforts
in one organizational structure.
